Mixed Dal /Mixed Lentil recipe

Lentils are rich source of protein. I always feed my baby some or the other lentils. I myself like it very much with rice and chapati. This is a quick and easy mixed lentil/dal recipe. I am using three commonly used lentils in this recipe. They are masoor dal, moong dal and arhar dal. Addition of vegetables like eggplant and tomato adds to the taste  and makes it an awesome finger licking Dal.

Serves-  4
Preparation time- 2 minutes
Cooking time- 10 minutes
Level of difficulty- easy

Ingredients:

  • Arahar dal- 100 g
  • Masoor dal- 50 g
  • Moong dal -50 g
  • Onion- 1 chopped finely
  • Brinjal/ Eggplant - 1 , chopped
  • Tomato- 1, chopped
  • Oil
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric- 1 Tsp
  • Water
  • For tempering( Cumin seed- 1 Tsp, garlic clove- 1 minced, oil- 1 Tbsp, red chilli- 1 )
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing.
Preparation:
  • Heat 2 Tbsp of oil in a pressure cooker. Add the onions and saute until they turn transparent.
  • Add the brinjal/ eggplant and stir.
  • Now add all the lentils, tomato , Turmeric and adjust the salt .
  • Add water such that it forms 1 inch layer over the veggies.
  • Cover the lid. Wait for 3 whistles in low heat.
  • After 3 whistles, turn off the heat and let the cooker cool off.
  • After the cooker cools down, open the lid.
  • Prepare for tempering, Heat the oil and add all the tempering ingredients. Once cumin and all starts crackling pour this over the cooked dal.
  • Finally garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves
Enjoy!!!!!!!
Happy cooking :-)

  2. Wow, you have two post on a day? Salute you for that. I am here struggling to write my articles, the travel journeys, food reviews, recipes etc etc.

How can I say not to dhal? Without it, Indian meals are not complete. I should try making as per your recipe, the combo of 3 different types of dal. Its more interesting, tempting and flavorful.
